The Ever Changing Work Place

A new era of management

 

A lot has changed since I had my 1st job, and I am sure you notice. In today’s job force there are many things you must take into account before doing management, with all due respect old styles are dead and will not work for any company trying to grow.

Top of my list is your Employees, they are your first line of success. A lot of CEO’s and upper management still have no clue about this. So let me lay it out there. I have been on both sides of this fence, your employees are number one and you need to treat them as such. They are the first face customers see and they are you company’s voice.

If you treat your employee’s badly, then the outcome might be you company will do badly and your employees performance may be lacking. If you have good employee’s you will thrive in time, you must compensate them fairly and treat them with respect if you want them to respect you.

Too many companies underpay their workers and have the mentality that they can replace them as fast as they go out the door. Yes, that may be the case, but you may end up getting someone that’s is not up to par, high turnover is not a sign you want your company to have. And once you get into that pattern it is an endless flow.

Also management styles are not the same as twenty years ago. There is way more diversity in the workforce today, and your management needs to be just as diverse as the employee’s. Meaning all employees cannot be managed in the same manner. A lot of the time management may be your company’s worst enemy.  One style of management will not work today. Your management team might have to adjust their style of management for each and every employee.

The main reason behind this is due to the much diversity in the workplace. Everyone is not the same so you cannot expect them to perform like the next. Some may need a little more coaching then others, some may need to be recognized more, some may need things explained for them, while others just go for it and seem to be able to do everything without being told, but as I said before, we are all not the same and therefore our management styles cannot be the same.

Do not mistake this information as no matter how bad an employee is I will keep them, I am not saying that, I am saying Your employees are your companies most valued asset next to your customer’s. Just keep in mind content employees are good for your company and customers, it pays off in the long haul.
